How AI-assisted video editing actually works

by the AIisLife crew. Updated .

What AI does in a real video edit, what a human editor still decides, and what to send your editor so short videos come back right the first time.

What the AI does

In our edits, AI tools take the slow, repeat-heavy jobs: turning speech into captions, finding the good takes in long footage, cutting silences, cleaning up audio, resizing one video into vertical, square and wide versions, and drafting a few hook ideas.

That frees hours that used to go into dragging clips around. Those hours go back into the parts people notice.

What the editor still decides

Which moment opens the video. Where the story turns. What to cut even though it is good. Whether a caption is wrong, a name is misspelled, or a joke lands flat. AI captions get names, brands and accents wrong often enough that someone has to read every line.

So the rule we work by is simple: the AI makes the first draft, a person decides when it is done.

A typical short-form edit, step by step

  1. You send raw footage, your logo, fonts and a few videos you like.
  2. We pull the best moments and build a rough cut, with AI handling transcripts and silence removal.
  3. We add captions, music, b-roll and motion, then check every caption by hand.
  4. You get a draft, send notes, and we do up to 2 rounds of changes.
  5. You receive final files sized for each platform you post on.

What to send your editor

  • The raw files, not screen recordings of them.
  • Two or three reference videos you like, and one you do not.
  • Your brand colors, fonts and logo.
  • Where the video will be posted, and what you want people to do after watching.

When AI editing is the wrong fit

Long documentaries, sensitive interviews and anything where every frame is legal or medical evidence still need a slow, fully manual edit. We will tell you if your project is one of those.

Questions people ask

Is AI-edited video lower quality?

Not when a person checks it. AI speeds up the repetitive parts; the creative choices and the final check are still human.

Can you edit videos for TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts?

Yes. We size and caption each version for the platform it is posted on.
